facebook landing pages

What are facebook landing pages?

You are no doubt aware by now that you can create a page for your business (band, hobby etc) on facebook and get your friends and as many others as possible to "like" your page.

Having a business page, like a traditional website or blog etc., gives you or your business another avenue to be found in search engines.

So, create your page and it is a done deal, right? Wrong.

Granted, you could stop there. Most small businesses make this mistake. But not the smart ones. When you set up your business page you will automatically get all of the generic tabs that come with it as set up by facebook. For example you'll get your "wall", you'll get your "info page", "questions" and, depending on the mood of facebook you might get a "reviews" tab automatically (if you don't you can easily set it up).

So, here is what is likely to happen

Someone enters a query (search term) into Google, Bing, Yahoo, or even directly into facebook and hopefully your business page shows up. Hopefully too, the person decides to "like" your page - that is kind of the point as you want them to consistently see your updates in their newsfeeds, and eventually buy your product, attend your events etc.

Here is where the "landing page" comes in. The first time someone sees your page you can set up a custom "landing" page which is basically a regular web page within facebook. It can be completely customized to match the look, feel and mood of your regular website and your business in general. This "landing" is seen before your "wall" is seen. You look like the "big guys"... because now you ARE one of the big guys. You do not look the average DIYer giving their all at business social media. Again, face it...we live in a world where a book IS judged by the cover.

What else can a landing page "do" besides look good?

Besides making your business look bigger than it is - essentially it will make it look as big as it will eventually be - remember, it is in essence an actual web page with everything that that implies. You can give your viewers information and display it in a pleasing way (instead of a 'facebook way'), embed video, audio or both. You can incorporate a contact form. You can run a slideshow of images. You can give your viewers a "call to action", in other words "like" this page and you will recieve a free 'x'. The possibilities are as endless as what you can do on your website. But remember, the most important thing is IMAGE! In business, perception is ALWAYS reality.
